The building blew up, and Katsuki went flying backwards. Eijiro went tearing after him immediately, following the trail of smoke left in his wake. Denki was screaming, Hanta was on his phone, trying to reach Shoto or someone with a more suitable quirk, and Mina was looking desperately for a way into the building where the hostages were. They needed someone to come and fix this.

Katsuki’s ribs were sticking out of his chest, and his neck was bent in a terrifying angle where he was slumped against the post office – but he was breathing. Eijiro was yelling for someone to call an ambulance, but all the civilians were in chaos, screaming for the heroes to do something already, as if they weren’t trying, as if any of this was their fault. They were young, and had only graduated school a few months ago. They were doing their best

The fire was spreading rapidly, igniting the gas station next door to the bank. The whole street would be on fire soon, and none of them could do anything. They might be pro heroes, but their quirks were useless now. There was nothing they could do as the air filled with smoke. This wasn’t how this had been supposed to go, Katsuki hadn’t even created that big an explosion, it must have reacted with something on the other side of the door. They hadn’t known there was a bomb inside.

The sirens of ambulances and firetrucks were blaring, and Shoto had finally arrived, bringing Izuku with him, but it was too late. He put out the fire, but there was nothing left except ash and charred skeletons. There were cameras everywhere, filming everything. 

Shoto wrapped his arms cautiously around Hanta, who buried his face gratefully into his shoulder, and Izuku led Mina and Denki away from what had been a bank that morning. Eijiro went with Katsuki into the ambulance, kissing him on the forehead and gripping his hand so tightly his knuckles were white. The media was going to have a field day with this.

They should have taken their time to formulate a plan, but the robbers had been threatening to start shooting hostages, and they’d sounded serious. Katsuki had been the one to try to blow the door down, but Hanta had been the one to suggest it. Eijiro had said they should think about this, but he hadn’t held him back. Mina and Denki had agreed that it was probably the quickest way in. They’d killed four robbers and seventeen hostages.
